Top Ten Quran Verses for Understanding ISIS (the Islamic State) - David Wood

Share it:

If you really want to understand the rape and slaughter being committed in the name of Allah SWT by the Islamic state, you have to study the history of Muhammad and his companions.

History found in the Hadith and the Sira literature, but you can get a pretty good outline of the Islamic states message and tactics by reading the Quran which Muslims believe to be the direct word of Allah SWT.

For those of you who don't have time to read the Quran, here's a top 10 list of the most essential verses for understanding ISIS.

Top Ten Quran Verses for Understanding ISIS (the Islamic State). Shalom, this is the explanation:

#10
Quran 3:32 / Ali Imran:32 (Keluarga Imran)
qul athii'uu allaaha waalrrasuula fa-in tawallaw fa-inna allaaha laa yuhibbu alkaafiriina
Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger." But if they turn away - then indeed, Allah does not like the disbelievers (kufar / kafir).

in the Bible Jesus says that God loves everyone and the Quran not so much. Sura 3:32 say, 'Obey Allah in the Apostle but if they turn back then surely Allah does not love the unbelievers.'

According to the Quran, Allah SWT only loves obedient Muslims. I wonder why ISIS doesn't seem to have much love for non-muslims.

Quran 48:29 / Al Fat-h:29 (Kemenangan)
muhammadun rasuulu allaahi waalladziina ma'ahu asyiddaau 'alaa alkuffaari ruhamaau baynahum taraahum rukka'an sujjadan yabtaghuuna fadhlan mina allaahi waridhwaanan siimaahum fii wujuuhihim min atsari alssujuudi dzaalika matsaluhum fii alttawraati wamatsaluhum fii al-injiili kazar'in akhraja syath-ahu faaazarahu faistaghlazha faistawaa 'alaa suuqihi yu'jibu alzzurraa'a liyaghiizha bihimu alkuffaara wa'ada allaahu alladziina aamanuu wa'amiluu alshshaalihaati minhum maghfiratan wa-ajran 'azhiimaan
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.

Believe it or not Allah complete lack of love for non-muslims plays a role in how non-muslims are to be treated. Look in Quran 48:29, 'Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah SWT and those who are with him are severe against unbelievers and merciful among themselves.' Those who are with Muhammad ie Muslims are severe against whom? Against unbelievers. They're merciful to whom? Only to their fellow Muslim.

Politicians in the media just can't figure out why ISIS is so severe against non-muslims.

Quran 4:24 / An Nisaa' (Wanita):24
waalmuhsanaatu mina alnnisaa-i illaa maa malakat aymaanukum kitaaba allaahi 'alaykum wauhilla lakum maa waraa-a dzaalikum an tabtaghuu bi-amwaalikum muhsiniina ghayra musaafihiina famaa istamta'tum bihi minhunna faaatuuhunna ujuurahunna fariidhatan walaa junaaha 'alaykum fiimaa taraadaytum bihi min ba'di alfariidhati inna allaaha kaana 'aliiman hakiimaan
And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. [This is] the decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.

There are lots of ways to be severe against unbelievers. here's one Surah 4 verse 24; 'And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those (captives and slaves) whom your right hands possess.'

This may be confusing without the historical context, which you can read in Sunan Abu Daoud 2150, when Muhammad won the battle of altas, Allah had already revealed that Muslims were free to rape their female captives. But in out us the Muslim army captured, certain women along with their husbands, and some of the Muslims started wondering if raping these women counted as adultery because they were married.

That's when Allah revealed Sura 4 verse 24, which says that married women are indeed forbidden as sex partners, unless they're your captives. If they're your captives, rape them all you want. Allah couldn't conceivably care less that they're married. Heard about any groups raping their female captives recently?

Quran 5:33 / Al Maa-Idah (Hidangan):33
innamaa jazaau alladziina yuhaaribuuna allaaha warasuulahu wayas'awna fii al-ardhi fasaadan an yuqattaluu aw yushallabuu aw tuqaththha'a aydiihim wa-arjuluhum min khilaafin aw yunfaw mina al-ardhi dzaalika lahum khizyun fii alddunyaa walahum fii al-aakhirati 'adzaabun 'azhiimun
Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment, ...

Notice that there are several penalties including death, crucifixion and dismemberment for the vague crime of making mischief in the land. Since the crime is vague Muslim groups like ISIS can pack all kinds of offenses into this verse, and yet the US State Department just put out a video making fun of ISIS for crucifying their enemies.

Quran 9:5 / Surat At Taubah (Pengampunan):5
fa-idzaa insalakha al-asyhuru alhurumu fauqtuluu almusyrikiina haytsu wajadtumuuhum wakhudzuuhum wauhsuruuhum wauq'uduu lahum kulla marshadin fa-in taabuu wa-aqaamuu alshshalaata waaatawuu alzzakaata fakhalluu sabiilahum inna allaaha ghafuurun rahiimun
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

When Muhammad was completely outnumbered, he had to put up with idolaters, but once he had the most powerful army in Arabia, the message of Islam became convert or die. Surah 9 verse 5 contains a laws final marching orders on dealing with idolaters.

So kill them unless they convert to Islam. Sound familiar?

Quran 9:29 / Surat At Taubah (Pengampunan):9
qaatiluu alladziina laa yu/minuuna biallaahi walaa bialyawmi al-aakhiri walaa yuharrimuuna maa harrama allaahu warasuuluhu walaa yadiinuuna diina alhaqqi mina alladziina uutuu alkitaaba hattaa yu'thuu aljizyata 'an yadin wahum shaaghiruuna
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.

Since idolaters have to convert or die, you might be wondering why ISIS gives Christians, a third option the option of paying jizya, tribute money.

So the benefit of being a Jew or a Christian according to Allah is that you won't necessarily be slaughtered for refusing to convert. You have the option of paying tribute money to Muslims, an acknowledgement of your inferiority. Is it just me or is ISIS following the Quran to the letter?

Quran 9:73 / Surat At Taubah (Pengampunan):73
yaa ayyuhaa alnnabiyyu jaahidi alkuffaara waalmunaafiqiina waughluzh 'alayhim wama/waahum jahannamu wabi/sa almashiiru
(73) O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination. --- lanjut ke --- (74) They swear by Allah that they did not say [anything against the Prophet] while they had said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their [pretense of] Islam and planned that which they were not to attain. And they were not resentful except [for the fact] that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them of His bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them; but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And there will not be for them on earth any protector or helper.

But ISIS doesn't just attack unbelievers, Muslims are also targeted. Why is that? See Quran 9:73.

The Arabic for strive hard here is a form of the word jihad. So Muslims are commanded to wage jihad, not only against unbelievers but also against hypocrites, people who claim to be Muslims but aren't doing what Allah tells them to do. The penalty for hypocrisy can vary depending on the severity of the hypocrisy, but when Muslims deviate from chorus Islamic doctrin, they find themselves in the apostate category, and the penalty for apostasy is death.

So when Isis kills Muslims who aren't adhering to central Muslim doctrines, they're just doing what Allah commands.

Quran 9:111 / Surat At Taubah (Pengampunan):111
inna allaaha isytaraa mina almu/miniina anfusahum wa-amwaalahum bi-anna lahumu aljannata yuqaatiluuna fii sabiili allaahi fayaqtuluuna wayuqtaluuna wa'dan 'alayhi haqqan fii alttawraati waal-injiili waalqur-aani waman awfaa bi'ahdihi mina allaahi faistabsyiruu bibay'ikumu alladzii baaya'tum bihi wadzaalika huwa alfawzu al'azhiimu
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah , so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah ? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.

But what about all the peaceful westernized Muslims who condemned killing in the name of Allah. Sadly Islam isn't defined by westernized, Muslims it's defined by Allah who says in surah 9 verse 111. Allah defines believers as those who slay and get slain. They keep killing until they get killed. Doesn't sound much like our peaceful Muslim neighbors, but it sounds an awful lot like ISIS.

Quran 47:35 / Surat Nabi Muhammad S.A.W:35
falaa tahinuu watad'uu ilaa alssalmi wa-antumu al-a'lawna waallaahu ma'akum walan yatirakum a'maalakum
[47:35] So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allah is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.

Muslims are only allowed to seek peace, when they aren't in a position to violently subjugate their enemies. Allah says in surah 47 verse 35.

When the Muslim community is strong enough to slay the idolaters and to subjugate the Jews and Christians and to fight the hypocrites peace is not an option. If you seek peace when you should be uppermost, you won't have much ground to stand on when ISIS knocks on your door and tells you that you're a hypocrite.

Quran 1:106 / Surat Al Bawarah (Sapi betina):106
maa nansakh min aayatin aw nunsihaa na/ti bikhayrin minhaa aw mitslihaa alam ta'lam anna allaaha 'alaa kulli syay-in qadiirun
We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth [one] better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent?

This final verse might seem out of place because it's not about rape or slaughter but you can't really understand how the verses about rape and slaughter fit into Islam as a whole without understanding surah 2 verse 106.

People in the West have been trying to condemn the Islamic state by quoting peaceful verses of the Quran how can you guys call yourselves Muslims when the Quran says there's no compulsion in religion.

But those peaceful verses were revealed before Allah commanded his followers to slay idolaters and to subjugate Jews and Christians and to fight hypocrites. So the most important verse you need to know if you want to understand the Islamic state is surah 2 verse 106, which lays out the doctrine of abrogation earlier verses, get abrogated or canceled by later verses, which means that versions of Islam that oppose the sort of violence being committed by the Islamic state are now obsolete.
