We begin in the garden of Eden, a paradise that God created for the human race. We read in Genesis 2:15: And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. This garden was pure and beautiful, and man was created to live on this earth forever, with no death, sin, or suffering. Adam and Eve, the original humans, were directed to be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
But God gave this first couple a single rule to test their allegiance to Him and prove that they were worthy of this wonderful gift of life. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Unfaithful to their trust, our first couple broke God's plain command and ate of the forbidden fruit.
We read of this sad account in Genesis 3:6: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
So, what would be the result? The Bible is clear in describing the results of sin: For the wages of sin is death.
In fact, we have seen that God clearly said "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." All of the universe was gazing on this scene with the greatest interest. The fate of mankind was hanging in the balance.
Would Adam and Eve, and all of humanity, be given a second chance? Before we answer these questions and see the climactic ending of this story, let us turn our attention to the Sanctuary service of ancient Israel.
After all, God tells us that his way, his plan of salvation, can be seen in the sanctuary! The Bible declares Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary. The sanctuary was a 3d blueprint, or model, of God's true sanctuary in Heaven. It was given to God's people to teach them more about His character and plan to save mankind.
The building plans for this awe-inspiring service were given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. In this service, when an Israelite sinned, they were required to bring a pure, spotless lamb into the court of the sanctuary, and had to lay their hand on it's head, symbolizing the transfer of sin from the person to the innocent lamb.
What happened next was graphic and sad, but was meant to show the pain and suffering that sin causes. The sinner, with his own hands, was to slit the throat of the blameless lamb, spilling it's blood.
"without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins."
By participating in this ceremony, the sinner was forgiven, as He showed his faith in the true Lamb of God, the Messiah, who was to come.
Now, back to our story. In that Eden Paradise, Adam and Eve had broken God's law by eating the forbidden fruit, and were deserving of death.
Friends, the human race needed a hero that night. They needed a sacrifice, or substitute, who would die in their place so that they might live. We read of this sacrifice in the book of Revelation, where it refers to the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
In the courts of Heaven above, as the fate of mankind was discussed, a voice rang out, exclaiming:
'I will pay the price! I will die the death that he deserves. So that he can live the life that i deserve. Man will have a second chance!'
The universe listened in silence and awe. Could it be? Jesus Christ, the God of the Universe, sacrificing His own life for wicked human beings?! Yes, this Lamb is Jesus! Jesus fulfilled Bible prophecy! He is the Lamb of Revelation!
In the Old Testament of the Bible, there are over 125 prophecies of the coming Messiah, the Lamb of God! Jesus fulfilled each of them perfectly! We read about Him in John 1:29: The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Just as the lambs in the sanctuary service had to be perfect and spotless, Jesus was without sin, fully innocent. The lamb symbolically took on the sins of the people and paid their penalty, but Jesus took the blame for the sins of the entire world, and paid the ultimate penalty - which was death.
You have probably heard that beautiful verse: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting everlasting life.
The God of the universe humbled Himself and became a human being. He lived a life of sacrifice and loving service. He suffered and bled and died on the cross, to take on the death penalty that you and
I deserve. What wondrous love is this!
But that's not the end of the story. Because of Jesus' victory over sin, death could not hold Him down! After 3 days in the tomb, Jesus rose up victorious! He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. By conquering death, Jesus has opened the door for us to live with Him forever!
So, what exactly must I do to receive the free gift of salvation that Jesus paid for on the cross? I will explain this in just a moment. But first, what does Jesus' death and resurrection mean to you? How will it affect your life?
1. No matter how evil a person you are, all your past sins will be forgiven.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness..
2. You become adopted into the family of God!
But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.
3. You will live a more joyful, abundant life!
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. We now have a purpose for our life and a hope for the future! No matter what struggles come our way, losing property, health, or even life, we know that Jesus is at our side and will never leave us. We know that we have eternal life secured! What peace and joy this will bring you!
4. He changes your heart and attitude!
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. The sinful things we used to do, he helps us to stop. The drunkard becomes sober. The angry person becomes patient. Jesus gives us power to live holy lives! This will strengthen your marriage, improve relationships with your children and friends, and positively impact all areas of your life.
5. If you are faithful to Him, you will live with Jesus forever in the New Heavens and the New earth.
Jesus tells us In my Father's house are many mansions ... I go to prepare a place for you.
So, how can you make these things a reality? How can you secure these blessings for yourself? What must you do to be saved?!
Friend, the forgiveness and abundant life that Jesus offers can be yours, even at this very moment. Please do not take this decision lightly, it will be the most important of your life.
By choosing Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are choosing to say goodbye to a life of sin and death, and you are accepting a life a love, joy, and obedience.
I want to give you this opportunity to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior right now, or to re-dedicate yourself to Him at this time. If this is your desire, I invite you to repeat this prayer after me:
Dear Lord, i know that i am a sinner worthy of death. There is nothing i can do to save myself from the punishment of death. I believe that You die for me on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins so that i can have eternal life. Thank you for making this sacrifice for me. Please forgive my past sins. I turn from them now. I choose to surrender my life to You, and to accept you as my Lord and Savior. Help me to live a holy life that honor You. I pray this prayer in Jesus's name. Amen.
